FEDA works in various ways to address the needs of  adult literacy and vocational trainings, education of Girls orphaned by the war in schools, peacebuilding, women & children's rights, health & environment and capacity building activities in communities. Whether it's through our Community programs, or through partnerships with international organisations, donors and/other other community-focused organizations, we are working with communities to build a just and healthy society for all to tackle illiteracy, violence, ignorance and extreme poverty.

1.  ALPHA+ Program

Program background

The program started in 2009 with public literacy classes under support of Nando peretti foundation( Italy) in three villages namely Kavumbwe, Karamba and Bwi'ya. One year after, in 2010 Feed the Minds(UK) visited FEDA through Mr Mathiew Hamilton  in field at Kazimia,,FIZI district in  South-Kivu province DRC to ensure about our viability and credibility as well as our impacts.   In 2012, Feed the Minds  interred into contract of  the adult literacy project for 18 Moths implementation period in 6 Villages. The project resulted to the impacts evaluation that recommended for the newly adopted approach of home based literacy learning​. The project of home based literacy classes and vocational training based on soap-making was then been developed conjointly and parties interred into contract of 3 years from 2015-2016

This project is operational in six villages namely: Kazimia, Kabogo, Kibanga, Nguma, Buma and kikonde.

 

Aim

The program aims at promoting literacy among rural women and Girls and providing diverse opportunities for income generations to overcome illiteracy and poverty.

 

Intended activities of the program 

This is being achieved through the following activities: 

                a)  Home based literacy classes

                b)  Vocational trainings

                c)  Computer literacy

                d)  Creation of entrepreneurship groups among literacy learners 

                e)  International languages literacy (French and English)

                f)   Holding a public library containing diverse books for education and community needs

                g)  Celebration of international literacy day

                    Etc...

2. Peace embassy program

Program background

The program started on May 2010 when Feed the Minds(UK) organized a workshop in South-Sudan on storytelling-promoting peace and healing where FEDA have been invited to participate. Soon after FEDA conducted a dissemination workshop in Kazimia under support of Feed the Minds. The impact of the workshop led FEDA to involve in peacebuilding work as recommended by participants and started in 2011 with the need assessment and the project planning later on 2013.

In 2015, The Fellowship of reconciliation(UK) granted the peace embassy program to be active.

The program continued to be more visible and effective in 2016 with the support of Robert Bosch stiching( Germany)

 

Aim

The main goal of the program is to create a culture of peace accompanied by a culture of healing , while at the same time, building the capacity of communities to manage conflicts and transform them into something positive

Intended activities include

              a)  Training of peace artisans/Also known as the training of leadership for peace

               b)  Youth peacebuilders networking (This include: Hearings for peace, sports for peace,

                    Art for peace, Etc...) 

               c)  Schools for peace

               d)  Community radio for peace

               e)  Chambers for peace/Sittings for mediation

               f)   Celebration of peace international days. This include( May 24-Women international 

                    day for peace and désarmement and September 21- international peace day​)

3. Program of education support of Girls orphaned by the                                             war

Program background

The program started on September 2011 after the needs assessment carried by FEDA on the impact of war on Girls education. The need being high, 24 Girls started to get supported by FEDA in secondary schools. Depending on self-financing basis, the program  no longer continue to provide assistance needed to supported Girls in 2014.

Taking into consideration of new orphaned girls in need, FEDA did not give-up from his efforts of fundarising for the program, unfortunately no support did not be secured.

In 2015, VIVERE( Switzerland) get interested  with FEDA through visiting our website and proposed a field visit later September, the visit organized by Mr. MIKE HOFFMAN( The president of VIVERE) offered the opportunity of collaboration.

As an outcome, VIVERE started to support 19 Girls for the school year 2015-2016.

The successful evaluation of the program held on September 2016 which involved FEDA staff, supported Girls and schools led to the continuation of the program. Other new 15 cases have been admitted for support and totalizing 34 Girls supported in different secondary schools in Kazimia under VIVERE support for 2016-2017 school year.

Aim

The program aims at reducing the Girls’ emotional impacts, educational , family structures and stigmatization by helping children to become productive members of the community restoring the hope of life among orphaned Girls, Placing Girls in the hope to live outside of extreme vulnerability and Helping children to become responsible for themselves in their future lives

Intended activities include 

              a)  Sponsorship of orphaned Girls in schools ( Payment of school fees, uniforms, books and other                           educational material

               b)  Support of caregivers 

               c)  Counseling 

               d)  Home based visiting

                e)  Life skills education through established young girls’clubs
